Under the ‘Animal Act’ you are usually responsible for damage/injury caused by your horse or pony. In 1998 Lyn Young from Cricklade suffered leg and back injuries when a loose horse at the Purton Show ran her down. The criterion at Swindon Crown Court was whether the owner had taken reasonable safety precautions to prevent the horse getting loose. In this case the owner had not and Lyn won damages in her favour.
